Recipe of the Month
Irmik Helva (Traditional Turkish Dessert) – 12 Pieces
2 tablespoon butter (50gram unsalted)
150 gram coarse semolina (not suggested fine semolina)
Boil water in a saucepan, add the sugar in and stir to dissolve for 5 minutes. After preparation of syrup, keep it aside for warm.
Melt the butter, add semolina in a separate saucepan, cook until the ingredients change color slightly, stirring occasionally over medium heat for 10 minutes.
Once the semolina turns brownish and smells good, add warm syrup slowly and stir continuously with a wooden spoon to get a smooth mixture of semolina. After stirring for about 5 minutes, turn the heat off and close the lid. Leave aside for about 10 minutes.
Shape with a spoon using the sides of the pot. Take a big spoonful of helva and press it towards the sides of the pot to give an oval shape. Put the chunky walnut on top of each piece of helva and place them over a serving plate.
